Today there are so many products in every form of industry.

 Anyone can find a need for an item that they can design and have created and be put out on the open market.  What then, though, when this product has “issues” or “malfunctions” or perhaps breaks… what then? Who do you contact? Usually there is a phone number, website, or dare I say it – mailing address, to the organization that has created this product. Usually this leads to “CUSTOMER SERVICE”. Many consumers dread contacting customer service, but why?

* Employee Attitudes

* long list of trouble shooting items you just performed

* hard to understand languages

* long periods of being on hold.

* same music on a repeating loop

As a company, customer service should be a top priority, why?

Customer service is important, because it is often the only contact a customer has with a company. Customers are vital to a company. Some customers spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars per year with a company. Consequently, when they have a question or product issue, they expect a company's customer service department to resolve their issues. Customer service is also important to an organization because it can help differentiate a company from it competitors.

  • An example - it may be difficult to tell the difference between two small-town grocery stores, especially if their prices are similar. Therefore, putting extra efforts into customer service may be thing that gives one store a competitive advantage

So what are the benefits of having good customer service?

A company with excellent customer service is more likely to get repeat customers. The company will benefit with greater sales and profits. In contrast companies with poor customer service may lose customers, which will create issues with the business profits. It costs a substantial amount of money for a company to acquire a customer than to retain them, due to advertising costs and the expense of sales calls. Therefore, the efforts that go into maintaining quality customer service can really pay-out in the long run.

On another note customers that have a positive experience with a company's customer service department will likely tell two or three others about their experience. Therefore, quality customer service can be a source of promotion for organizations.
